Your work wardrobe is so conservative and boring. How can you perk it up?
Add elements that are new and surprising – but not short-lived and trendy, so they last several seasons. Instead of putting the expected – a white shirt – under a navy pinstriped pantsuit, try a shiny satin-finish shirt in tangerine, pale green, or golden yellow.
Break up a suit: Substitute a lilac sweater set for the businesslike blazer that came with pleated trousers – or wear the blazer with slim-cut khakis. Slip a cashmere tee under a straitlaced vest. Accessories energize youe image too. Belt sedate trousers with a red or green snakeskin or patent leather belt instead of black or brown; replace equestrian scarves with striped, dotted, or animal-print neckerchiefs and oblongs. Drop big jewelry and switch to small, sentimental pieces, or none at all.
