City Sights Historical Delights – Calicut & Tanjore

The Calicut district is criss-crossed by rivers, with the Arabian Sea to one side and the Wayanad Hills to the other. Calicut it self is built around a harbour and the atmosphere that prevails here is reminiscent of a quiet market town – friendly and endearing. The city of Tanjore’s skyline is dominated by the Brihadishwara Temple & Fort. Beautifully preserved, this magnificent building dates back to the days when the city was the capital of the Chola Kings.
