Safety In Numbers

Boys are greeted in a reception similar to that for grooms at weddings, during a mass circumcision in Kampung Nahkoda, north of Kuala Lumpur. About 25 boys, aged between 7 and 11 years, were given a grand welcome to the mass circumcision surgery, which some consider a celebration of reaching manhood.

According to recent studies, circumcision can protect men from the deadly HIV virus and prevent them carrying the strain of human papilloma virus that causes cervical cancer in women.
