City Destinations – Cebu

One of the major destinations of the Philippines is Cebu City – the “Queen City of The South”. Cebu is also the shipping hub of Philippines. This is also the place where Magellan first landed in the Philippines, which also explains why it has the longest history of European contacts.

Cebu is known for its historical landmarks, among them the Magellan Cross and the Basilica Minore of Santo Nino. The Cross is located across the Basilica on Magellans St. It was originally a church that was converted by the Pope in 1965 in recognition of Cebu as the cradle of Christianity in the Far East.

There’s an interesting small museum in the University of San Carlos. Other tourist attractions include a brightly decorated Taoist temple and the Casa Gorordo Museum, a restored home dating from the turn of the century.
