City Destinations – Lombok

Lombok, in the province of West Nusa Tenggara, has white beaches, an age-old culture and has become a tourist destination of exceptional charm.

Ampenan-Mataram-Cakranegara- Sweta is a four-part capital, port and main town of Lombok. Lombok’s biggest Balinese temple is Pura Meru in Cakranegara. Pura Lingsar is a sacred Hindu shrine where both Hindus and Muslims come to worship.

South of this town is Sukarare which is famous for its brightly patterned songket cloth. Kuta Beach, is a paradise for swimming, snorkeling, diving and windsurfing. Senggigi Beach, north of Bangsal, is another popular site. Coral gardens grow in the sea just off shore.

The Sasaks, Lombok’s indigenous people, are simple, unassuming folks and these traits are refrected in their architecture, the essence of which is simplicity. The adventurous may want to check out Mt. Rinjani, a 3,725 metre-high active volcano.
