City Destinations – Hatyai


Hatyai’s proximity to West Malaysia has made it a convenient holiday destination for most Malaysians and Singaporeans. It is only 947km south of Bangkok, with trade and tourism as its main revenue earners. Hatyai is well-known for its nightlife – bars, lounges and massage parlours.

The city is also known for its bullfighting competitions. Shopping is a big attraction and there are many good buys especially cotton products and cut out leather shadow puppets. The principal shopping areas are in Niphat Uthit 2 & 3 Roads Sanehanuson Road and Plaza Market. Hatyai affords ample opportunity for dining. In addition to spicy Thai specialities and seafood, Chinese and Muslim specialities can be found in many restaurant.

In the outskirts of Hatyai are a number of other attractions – the picturesque waterfall of Ton Nga Chang, the “Café of the Elephant Fountain” and the Songkhal Lake, a sanctuary that supports 140 species of birds.
